How to Keep Your Bong Clean and Bacteria-Free

If you're a regular bong user, you know that over time, your bong can get pretty gross. Bacteria can build up, and before you know it, your bong is one big petri dish. No one wants to smoke bacteria-ridden water out of a dirty bong, so it's important to clean your bong on a regular basis. Here's a step-by-step guide, showing you how to clean your bong.

Step One: Empty Out the Water

The first step is to empty out all of the old water. Depending on how often you use your bong, you may need to do this daily or weekly. If you notice that the water is starting to look murky or dirty, it's definitely time for a change. Simply pour it out and give your bong a quick rinse with hot water.

Step Two: Remove Any Bowls or Downstems

Next, remove any bowls or downstems. These are the parts of the bong that come into direct contact with the cannabis, so they can get pretty gunky over time. Set them aside in a safe place while you move on to the next step.

Step Three: Pour in Isopropyl Alcohol and Rock Salt

Now it's time to clean the actual bong. For this, you'll need 90% or higher isopropyl alcohol—the higher the percentage, the better—and rock salt. (You can find both of these things at your local drug store.) Pour the alcohol into the bong until it's one third of the way full, then add a teaspoon of rock salt. The salt will help scrub away any tough residue.

Step Four: Shake Vigorously and Let Sit for 30 Minutes

Once you've added the salt, it's time to shake things up—literally. Cover the top of your bong and shake it vigorously for 30 seconds to one minute. Then set it aside and let it sit for at least 30 minutes so the alcohol has time to do its job. Repeat this step as necessary until your bong in completely clean of residue.

Step Five: Rinse Very Well and Refill with Water

After 30 minutes (or more), it's time to rinse out your bong very well with hot water. You don't want any alcohol residue left behind, as this can be harmful if inhaled. Once it's rinsed out completely, refill your bong with fresh water and get ready to enjoy a clean smoking experience!

A clean bong is a happy bong—and a happy bong user makes for some great company! Following these simple steps on how to clean your bong will ensure that you're always smoking bacteria-free water and enjoying every hit to the fullest.
